Although the government has made a pledge to provide uniforms to all government school students, this is a recent initiative (2024) and when PPC first began, there were students whose parents or guardians were unable to provide them with a uniform. When we were approached by a school director (of a school to which we had donated pencil cases) about several students about to drop out because they had no uniforms, PPC immediately decided to use funds to take these students to a local tailor in the nearby marketplace to get uniforms produced on the spot – something so quick and easy for us to do which had a significant impact on these children and kept them in school….
When Arakele was created we were able to produce and donate uniforms from our own sewing department.
