HELP US TO RAISE FUNDS FOR A MINI BUS VEHICLE!
Since 2014, Project Pencil Case partner and Ethiopian social enterprise, Arakele has been providing training in sewing and design to cycles of primarily women from vulnerable backgrounds and connecting them to sustainable employment. Arakele is located in the northern part of Addis and although there are good bus services, Addis has grown into an urban sprawl of more than six million people! Arakele receives inquiries from lots of students from throughout the city who would love to learn at Arakele but once they hear where we are located, it would just be too many bus journeys and take too much time.
How a vehicle would help us operate efficiently every day:
- Attract students from different parts of Addis by meeting them in central Addis directly connecting them to and from Arakele limiting their public transport links and the time it takes
- Transport bulk purchases we require for Arakele
- Deliver period pad kits and pencil cases in bulk to donate to schools in and around Addis
- Take students on necessary field trips as part of their training – visit textile markets, visit textile sector businesses and more …
- Collect at risk students we will be training directly from partner organisations which are serving the needs of vulnerable and displaced women…
- Use the vehicle to collect and return students from international schools who wish to learn as part of an after school program (fees charged support the fees for Arakele scholarship students)
The cost for a second hand mini bus to carry around 10 students would be 56,000 gbp. Vehicles are not cheap in Ethiopia; for a good car company such as Toyota, the price increases with the age of the vehicle…
